STOP WASTING TIME! (And how to stop wasting time)
The average person has a screen time of 7 hours a day! 7 hours spent on Tiktok, YouTube, Instagram, gaming and lots more. That's 7 hours of time which could be spent to do better things. Imagine if you took away just one of those hours each day to do something productive. That's 365 hours a year! What if you took away 2,3 or even all of that time. Quickly you would be racking up thousands of hours on something which improves you. Now I'm not saying screens are bad, in fact, they can be an incredibly useful tool for lots of things in life. You can start an online business or find helpful advice for practically anything. But there are also lots of unhelpful things on screens.
There are so many other reasons to stop wasting time on useless things
- Improved mental health
- Improved happiness
- More time to do the things you really want to do
- Thinking clearer and sharper
- Improved physical healthy
- Better self esteem
- Increased productivity
And lots more
How can we stop wasting time?
1. Stop for a few seconds before wasting time
Often we aren't fully present or mindful when we are doing these activities, so a simple way to decrease your screen consumption is to just wait a few seconds and breathe before doing these activities. There is a great free app called 'One Sec.' What it does is if you open an app like YouTube it makes you wait a few seconds before opening up the app. These apps are designed to make you using them a habit, so this way you have to stop and think if you really want to use the app.
2. Replace mindless content consumption with a more productive activity
Finding something which you enjoy will obviously reduce your screen time usage as you are spending time doing something when you aren't mindlessly doing these activities. Here are some good habits to build which will also just generally improve your life (But there are loads more) :
Working out
Working out
Playing a sport
Journaling
Starting a business
Starting social media (YouTube, Tiktok, a blog, etc)
Learn a high income skill like programming or marketing
Meditating
Gong out into nature
Learning a new skill or language
3. Consume educational content
Instead of watching pointless content, switch it out for a book, podcast or documentary about a topic you want to learn more about or enjoy. These will be so much better for you long term and even if you don't enjoy it in the short term you will learn to find these much more interesting and enjoyable
If you do all of these methods, you will definitely be on your way to stopping wasting time and living a better life. Don't get discouraged if you don't immediately completely stop these habits though, as they have likely been embedded in your routine for years, its about reducing them, not cutting them out straight away.
